Sophisticated power analyser

November 2000 Electrical Power & Protection

An analyser that has proved to be very useful in the testing of filtering, voltage stabilisation, uninterrupted power supplies, surge and lightning protection, transformers and DC power supplies.

Ferro-Tech, manufacturer and supplier of power conditioning equipment, considers the Dranetz Power Platform 4300 to be the most sophisticated power analyser on the market. Managing Director Kevin Norris says it is incredible that such a small and compact instrument has so much capability packed into it.

Ferro-Tech not only sells equipment but also offers turnkey solutions to clients' power problems. "Ferro-Tech does a range of products such as line filtering, voltage stabilisation, uninterrupted power supplies, surge and lightning protection, transformers and DC power supplies. This is where the 4300 is so valuable - we take the instrument to a site and analyse the power for possible disturbances. The captured data enables us to establish what the problem is, if any, and to make recommendations for a solution," says Norris.

According to Ferro-Tech the 4300 has been chosen because it fulfils all the company's requirements. Ferro-Tech says it is an excellent instrument with outstanding features. The 4300 has an eight-channel capacity to measure, record and analyse power quality, harmonics and energy from any single or three-phase circuit. It measures voltage, current, sags and swells, and detects, records and analyses transient effects on critical loads.

For Ferro-Tech the most outstanding feature of the 4300 is its capability of numerical measurements and of capturing waveforms at the same time. No other instrument allows for that.

Ferro-Tech is also impressed with the 4300's software: "The DRAN-VIEW gives you the option to either download data from the optional optical serial port or memory card to your computer, or to store it on a disk for future reference. The stored data can then be viewed and analysed in the PC while the 4300 continues to monitor in the field. This enables us to present the client with a professional report."
