Wonderware has introduced several new scaled-down I/O options for its cost-effective FactorySuite A2 development suite and Version 1.5 of its Industrial Application Server software.
The FactorySuite A2 development edition licence is now available in small (250 I/O), medium (2500 I/O), large (4500 I/O) and extra-large (up to 100 000 I/O) development versions. Larger versions up to one million I/O are also available. The core application platform for Wonderware FactorySuite A2 application solutions is the Industrial Application Server. It can also now be purchased in sizes ranging from 250 I/O to 100K I/O per solution.
"The Industrial Application Server was first introduced in January 2003 and has seen rapid adoption by many customers such as Coca-Cola, SABMiller, SCAW Metals and many others," says Mike le Plastrier, director of Futuristix Advanced Control Systems, principal distributor in South Africa for the Wonderware range of industrial automation solutions. "In fact, the new ArchestrA platform is growing even faster than the original InTouch which set world-wide standards for rapid adoption. The standard configuration handles up to one million I/O, but as our customers have come to realise, the extensive benefits that the Industrial Application Server's underlying ArchestrA technology has to offer, we have received many requests for scalable licensing to fit the latest ArchestrA technology into any application."
The FactorySuite A2 development suite is a highly productive application development and deployment environment for supervisory/scada, production management and plant intelligence applications. It includes a single, integrated development environment for the engineering and maintenance of complete application solutions that use the Industrial Application Server, InTouch HMI software, IndustrialSQL Server plant historian and all available Wonderware communication servers.
Engineering and system maintenance savings are realised through the object-oriented capabilities of the Industrial Application Server, with its ability to make and distribute global configuration changes on-line quickly and without affecting manufacturing operations. As the core distributed application platform for Wonderware FactorySuite A2 manufacturing solutions, the Industrial Application Server provides the basis for improved lifecycle savings for virtually any supervisory/scada, plant intelligence or production management solution.
"This new, more scalable licensing model allows OEMs and small system developers to take advantage of the same engineering productivity enjoyed by users of larger automation and information systems," adds le Plastrier. "It also provides the ability for users to start with a small, basic application and easily expand functionality and capacity as needs arise."
Wonderware popularised the integrated manufacturing software suite concept in the 1990s and has continued to expand functionality, along with offering capabilities to specifically address lifecycle cost issues associated with automation and information systems. Built on Invensys' ArchestrA software architecture, Wonderware's FactorySuite A2 products enable quick and easy conversion of virtually any disparate plant data source into vital information - also known as plant intelligence.
