High power servo amplifiers

August 2004 Motion Control & Drives

Mitsubishi Electric has extended its 'Super Servo' amplifiers and motors up to 22 kW on three-phase 400 V versions. The MR-J2 Super series has power ratings of 50 W to 22 kW and is available in 200 and 400 V versions. Based on Mitsubishi Electric's MR-J2 servo series, the new Super series comes in three distinct versions:

* MR-J2S-A series has analog and digital inputs and is suitable for all single axis applications from positioning over speed to torque control.

* MR-J2S-B series with network bus facility is suitable for precise multiple axis synchronisation solutions.

* MR-J2S-CL series is a totally programmable amplifier offering an inexpensive positioning solution for the smaller power range.

One of the Super series permanent functions is realtime adaptive auto-tuning, which continuously monitors the control parameters and adjusts them automatically to match current conditions. This auto-tuning function delivers genuine automatic continuous adjustment with optimum performance for virtually the entire range of applications, including suspended loads and high friction applications.

To accompany the extension of the Super series is a new range of 400 V motors. All Super series motors have a high-resolution absolute encoder fitted as standard to permit precise control. Having the absolute encoder as standard in the motor simplifies system synchronisation and removes the need to keep re-homing axes giving much shorter start up times.

An integrated circuit identifying chip is fitted in every motor in the Super series. This chip allows the connected servo amplifier to immediately recognise the connected motor characteristics and adjust accordingly. This automatic recognition gives true plug-and-play connectivity.

Circuit Breaker Industries

CBI is a company wholly owned by Reunert and is an authorised distributor of the Mitsubishi Electric range of automation products. This range includes programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human machine interfaces (HMIs), variable speed drives (VSDs), servo drives and Mitsubishi motor control equipment (ie, magnetic contactors, medium and high voltage vacuum contactors, thermal overload relays and electronic motor protection relays). A qualified team of sales engineers is able to advise customers and supply back-up support and service. All products carry a 12 month warranty.
