One level sensor has many applications
August 2004
Level Measurement & Control
Automatic self-adjustment to suit almost any medium, including oils and wastewater, is a key benefit of the LK electronic level sensors from IFM Electronic. For users, this means that just one type of level sensor can be used for virtually every application, making installation straightforward, and eliminating the need to tie up money in large stocks of spares.
These sensors automatically compensate for the build-up of contaminants on the sensing surface. Suitable for applications involving almost any liquid, IFM's LK level sensors are available with probe lengths of 264, 472 and 728 mm. All types incorporate a three-digit seven-segment display that provides an instant readout of level. A programmable offset allows the reading to be adjusted, for example, to allow for the height of the probe above the base of a tank.
The sensors provide four switching points, each with adjustable hysteresis, which means that single LK sensors can, in some applications, replace up to eight conventional level switches. Switching points are easily adjusted by means of a simple pushbutton system, and all settings are immediately confirmed by the seven-segment display.
LK electronic level sensors are designed for operation from DC supplies in the range 10 to 30 V. The units have four outputs which are provided with short-circuit, overload and reverse-polarity protection, and are rated at 400 mA. The sensors have an IP67 protection rating, and can be used with media having temperatures from 0° to +65°C.
