Ultrasonic flow measurement stands the test of time

Flow Measurement & Control
Controlotron Corporation, based in New York, USA, pioneered the world's first practical clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter with the introduction of its clamp-on wide beam technology flowmeter in 1972. The company's leadership has been maintained by being the first to introduce a range of innovations that have become international standards in the industry.
As a result, Controlotron can now claim to have the largest installed based of clamp-on flowmeters in the world, used in every industry and industrialised country. As with its predecessors, the Controlotron System 1010 continues as a leader in many flow applications, with conditions including standard flow, pulsating, turbulent, aerated or non-homogenous.
With over 100 variable configurations, the flowmeter may be tailored to suit many applications. The 1010 Series is capable of both Doppler and time of flight measurements in one flowmeter, in single or dual channel configurations and also in high temperature applications up to 190°C.
The versatility of the Model 1010 is enhanced by features such as its autozero and zeromatic functions. The autozero enables users to protect against zero drift without actually stopping flow to reset the zero. While the Model 1010 is in use, the zeromatic function continuously checks the zero and eliminates zero drift, even in small pipes down to 1/4".
Controlotron's wide beam approach negates the need for 2 or 3-beam technology and provides the Model 1010 with the ability to actually 'see' the process and is impervious to any changes in process temperature or liquid properties.
With the combination of Controlotron's RTD and 4-wire technology, the Model 1010 can be used as a thermal energy meter, providing custody transfer accuracy on chilled or hot water lines to HVAC heat exchangers.
A unique feature of the Model 1010 is its ability to perform as a mass flowmeter. Embedded in the technology of the unit is a density measurement, which, if required, can be requested, enabling the Model 1010 to perform with accuracies similar to Coriolis flowmeters.
The Model 1010 has a range of 'families' designed to cross the spectrum of industries and these include portable and fixed standard systems from 1/4" to 9 m pipe sizes, single or dual channel, explosion-proof, waterproof, thermal energy meters, mass flowmeters, nuclear, leak detection, custody transfer, aircraft fuel meter, spool-piece, flow tube and flexible tube meters. Controlotron has also released a range of flowmeters for natural gas and flare gas applications.
