Reliable infrared linescan systems

March 2004 Sensors & Transducers

The Landscan infrared linescan systems from Land, use an optically scanned infrared detector to generate highly detailed and accurate temperature profile information across a hot object. Landscan sensor heads are designed for ease of operation and maintenance in hostile industrial environments, such as in steel and glass works. They have a measurement performance equivalent to the best radiation thermometers available. Modular in design, the non-contact systems provide flexibility in use to meet specific process, production and quality control requirements in a variety of industries within the measurement range 70 to 1400°C.

A range of mounting and cooling options allows use in ambient temperatures up to 500°C. Six sensor heads are available, each with a choice of six optical variants, aimed at different applications, plus an extensive choice of signal acquisition, processing and temperature display capability via the Landscan software.

The Landscan systems have a reliable and continuous operation with a 300:1 optical resolution for accurate sighting with a 60° scan angle. The scan rate is adjustable from 5 to 25 scans per second, and both scan speed and emissivity can be remotely adjusted.

The Landscan software has the ability to store, process and analyse the temperature data from the sensor heads. Acquisition rates of up to 1000 temperature samples per scan at the maximum sensor scan rate of 25 scans per second is possible. Designed as a dedicated sensor-to-process control interface, the software provides a high-speed acquisition system linked with up to 14 flexible 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA outputs, each with a high/low alarm.

The software provides remote control of the sensor heads via the reserved analog outputs, as well as a serial communications link to the peripheral equipment. Ethernet communication is available as an option, and configuration is easy using the set-up software.
