Have you noticed that only a few modern laptops and desktop PCs still have RS232 ports? Once reserved only for peripheral, 'temporary' connection to backup devices, digital cameras, etc, USB ports have become a universally recognised standard for localised communications. Now users can program existing Telemecanique Premium, Micro, Twido and Nano PLCs with a new USB cable option.
Telemecanique is offering the TSXPCX3030 USB cable, compatible with the Premium, Micro, Twido and Nano PLC ranges. This new device includes a mini DIN 8-pin connector for connection to the PLC, and a PC connector at the opposite end, converting the RS485 signal to USB. The cable is equipped with a rotating switch allowing selection of the communication mode - point-to-point, multipoint, or may be set to force the default protocol.
The cable requires the installation of a USB/serial driver in addition to the UNITELWAY or Modbus driver, for which new software releases are required. These drivers are only for use under Windows2000 and XP, and are not provided with the cable.
Please note the following restrictions:
* The TSXPCX3030 cannot share USB bus with other USB devices.
* The TSXPCX3030 cannot be used with the TSXPCX1031 connected simultaneously to the PC serial port.
