Dr Peter Martin, PhD, is vice president of performance measurement and management at Invensys production management, USA. He was recently selected by the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation (ISA) Society's InTech Magazine as one of the industry's "50 Most Influential Innovators" - a title that includes such notable personalities as eighteenth-century scientist James Watt, Bill Gates and the Wright brothers. All were cited for advancing automation, instrumentation and control technologies. The winners were nominated by instrumentation and control experts from a wide range of disciplines.

"We are very fortunate to have such a knowledgeable personality address our User Conference delegates at a time when new technologies and approaches are revolutionising the industrial automation industry," says Mike le Plastrier, director of Futuristix Advanced Control Systems, principal SA distributor for the Wonderware range of manufacturing solutions.

Over his three-decade tenure in the process automation industries, Dr Martin has authored the books 'Bottom line automation' and 'Dynamic performance management: the pathway to world class manufacturing', as well as numerous articles and technical papers about realtime performance measurement and resource productivity. He also holds several patents relative to performance measurement. Dr Martin has held a variety of positions at Invensys and The Foxboro Company in engineering, product planning, marketing and strategic planning. He left Foxboro to become vice president at Automation Research Corporation (ARC) before returning to Invensys in 1996. Dr Martin has BA and MS degrees in mathematics and an MA degree in administration and management and a Ph.D, in industrial engineering.
