Two Sonatrach-owned Algerian refineries, Naftec Skikda and Naftec Arzew, have contracted major turnkey installations for Saab Rosemount radar-based tank gauging systems. The Naftec Skikda refinery will install 122 high precision radar gauges and Naftec Arzew 212 gauges to replace its existing mechanical systems. Both systems include accurate custody transfer level measurement with multispot temperature measurement to permit accurate net volume determination.
Advanced tank management with inventory and custody transfer reporting is provided by the Saab Rosemount TankMaster PC software. Naftec Skikda, which is Africa's largest refinery, will use a fibre-optic network with PCs distributed over seven control rooms. The network features redundancy in its functionality to maximise data availability. Both turnkey installations are expected to be commissioned and ready within 2005.
Naftec is a subsidiary to Sonatrach, a government owned Algerian oil major. Sonatrach is the world's eleventh largest oil company and one of the world's largest producers and exporters of natural gas - employing 120 000 people.
