Temperature Measurement

Infrared thermometer with snapshot and logging capability

February 2004 Temperature Measurement

Launched in South Africa by PREI Instrumentation in August 2002, the MX6 unit can measure temperatures up to 900°C with 0,75°C accuracy and has precise double bright true spot sighting to show the exact location being measured. A simple press of a button stores a digital photograph of the area with date, time and temperature included in the image.

This simple unit can store data for 100 locations, which can then be downloaded via a USB link to supply Data Temp MX Software on a laptop or desktop PC. Once in a PC the user friendly images can be titled and enhanced and then used in simple MS Word documents for auto report generation. The unit has a built in flash automatically activated after low light is sensed. Near and far focus switching allows auto focus distance from 20 cm to infinity. Photo resolution is up to 640 x 480 pixels.

If the user requires to graph and record temperature, this is affected by connecting the MX6 up to a PC and leaving it to record the realtime temperature changes. Snap shot photograph can be taken when low or high temperature limits are exceeded.

A leader in non-contact IR temperature measurement, Raytek designs, manufactures and markets portable IR thermometers used as diagnostic tools for inspection, maintenance and quality control, as well as online automation sensors integrated into equipment and industrial processes to provide continuous temperature monitoring and trend analysis. Raytek instruments provide highly accurate measurements within a temperature range of -50 to 3000°C, making them suitable for virtually any application where temperature plays a critical role. The measurement target size can be smaller than 1 mm. The distance to target can be close up, or many metres away. Built-in laser sighting enables fast and accurate alignment of the measuring spot on the target surface, which is helpful with small targets or in dark or inaccessible areas.
