StoneL has introduced a new program of process networking products and services to facilitate the installation and improve the reliability of fieldbus networks in processing plants, including those in hazardous environments. The FieldLink program includes components that make fieldbus networking fast, easy and effective. FieldLink services include installation, design and training support, improving the reliability of the entire bus network.
FieldLink products may be used in corrosive process environments and are certified for use with power limited protection concepts, further reducing costs and improving safety in hazardous areas. The FieldLink Switched Drop Connectors, switchable junction terminals that interconnect bus spurs to the main bus trunk line, are designed to provide process networks with higher levels of reliability and maintainability by automatically protecting the network from inadvertent short circuits. When the switch is in the 'off' position the drop is de-energised in order to install, maintain or remove a field instrument. By switching the to the 'on' position the bus drop is energised. Should a short circuit occur on the drop when it is energised, the protection circuit will automatically limit the current to the drop and isolate it from the remaining network, permitting the other bus components to function normally. The drop connector automatically resets itself when the fault is removed, eliminating further maintenance or fuse replacement. The product relies on StoneL's solid-state protection circuitry, which reacts rapidly to short circuit faults to keep the remaining bus segment unaffected.
