Level Measurement & Control

Hydrostatic level measurement in hygienic environments

February 2004 Level Measurement & Control Information Security

Level detection in hygienic applications requires specially designed measuring units and process connections. The sensors have to meet the highest requirements as well as being extremely precise with excellent long-term stability.

Designed for CIP/SIP operation, IFM Electronic's type PF 2058/2658 pressure sensors provide continuous and point level measurement with an analog or switching output and operate independently of the conductivity and dielectric of the medium. Their ceramic measuring cell is highly resistant to aggressive media guaranteeing its use in a wide range of applications and ensuring high precision and long life.

Due to the sensors' flush mountable installation in the tank or vessel wall, reliable cleaning and sterilisation in the process are possible. Meeting IP 67 requirements, the sensors are vibration and shock resistant. They are EHEDG certified, operate on a standard 3 A and their contacts are gold plated. The high-grade stainless steel housing is potted, offering optimum protection against air humidity and chemicals, and all common process adapters such as SMS, DRD, clamp, or pipe fitting can be adapted due to IFM's special thread concept. The type PF 2058 is specially designed for the food industry, while the PF2658 is for use in normal hygienic systems such as in viscous media and media with suspended particles.

Both types have a seven-segment LED display and operate in a temperature range from -25 to 80°C. Included in the range is the type PI 2058/2658 which can operate in temperatures of -25 to 125°C (145°C max 1 hour). IFM Electronic is represented locally by Shorrock Automation.
