The new Raytek Thermalert MID temperature sensor is only 14 mm in diameter and 28 mm long, and its compact microprocessor-based electronics has all the features of much larger thermometers, but with a miniature price tag. This 2-piece thermometer provides 1% or 1°C accuracy with a response time of 150 ms over a range of -40 to 600°C, with the output programmable to any range within these limits. It has 10:1 or 2:1 optics, user-selectable outputs (4 to 20 mA, 0 to 20 mA, 0 to 5 V, J or K thermocouple), a 5-digit LCD for setup, and a 2-year warranty. In addition to the above general purpose units, there is a unit specifically for glass with a range of 150 to 850°C and one for metals with a range of 200 to 1200°C.
This non-contact thermometer has the additional feature of signal processing (averaging, peak hold and valley hold) which enables it to provide a steady output signal when used to monitor varying material or individual units on conveyor belt. Because of the miniature size, it is also particularly useful to OEMs who require a very small unit to build into their machines. It is commonly used in production line applications of plastic, rubber and food products.
