Low cost thermal imager - product of the year

December 2003 Temperature Measurement

At the recent European Electronics Industry Awards ceremony, the IRISYS Model 1011 Thermal Imager was named 'European Product of the Year' for 2003. The IRI 1011 is a groundbreaking thermal imager product that brings the benefits of this versatile technology to the professional, the trades person and non-specialist alike. The flexibility and ease of use of this product extends the normal application areas for thermal imaging from military and professional, to a wider use in industrial and commercial applications.

Peter Tait, product manager (thermal imaging) at PREI Instrumentation, the South African agents for IRISYS, says: "Thermal imaging camera technology is known to be very expensive with only large industrial, security and condition monitoring companies being able to purchase such hi-tech equipment. But now with the IRI 1011, cost of ownership has taken a quantum leap downwards. Affordability is the key word with this new camera, and opens up the opportunity of thermography to be standard technology in broader based industry.

The temperature range is -10 to 300°C with a field of view of 20° x 20°, and the device will run on four AA batteries for up to 10 hours. The thermographic colour images (with time and temperature) can be stored or downloaded to a PC. This 'toolbox camera' enables technicians to quickly scan potential problem areas such as electrical connections and bearings when doing preventative maintenance, process monitoring or HVAC troubleshooting.
