Full lift safety release valves

November 2003 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Bailey Birkett has been providing customers in the process, petrochemical and oil and gas industries with a range of pilot operated, spring loaded safety relief and thermal relief valves for more than 100 years. Manufactured by Safety Systems UK, they are sold in southern Africa by Dupleix Liquid Meters (DLM).

The WB, B, C & D and Safeset range of full nozzle, full lift safety relief valves are designed to protect plant and equipment by safely relieving excess pressure in petrochemical and process systems. The valves are tested using the company's extensive in-house mass flow facility, thus ensuring that they safely operate under the most challenging conditions.

There are times when to be 'good enough' is not enough - times when either the challenge of the application or the requirements of legislation call for an exceptional response to a particularly demanding set of circumstances. Bailey Birkett has the technical resources and expert knowledge to review the options and develop a cost-effective solution.

Specifically, a solution to a rather difficult safety relief application required valves to be specially designed to incorporate various special features in order to ensure optimum plant safety and valve performance. All of Safety Systems' pilot valves are fitted with integral filters as standard; however, under these extreme conditions (where large amounts of particulate were present) an additional supply filter was used. A back flow preventer was also used to prevent reverse flow through the main valve into the inlet system. Heat exchanger coils and two discharge ports enabled high capacities to be obtained at extremes of temperature. Field test connectors allowed verification of the pilot set pressure during normal system operation.

The Safety Systems/DLM team is committed to helping its customers achieve their commercial and environmental objectives by offering flexibility and professional advice. The companies have considerable experience in providing solutions for highly specialised applications.
