Non-contact pulse microwave technology from Vega has moved into its third generation with the introduction of its 'plics' (for 'plug-in concepts') radar sensor, the Vegapuls 60 series.
The plics system standardises the company's products for these fundamental measurement principles into one simple, modular approach. The result is one housing, one programming philosophy, a common interface and one remote software system, PACTware. The system also has universal displays, communication protocols, approvals, fittings and electronic inserts.
The series joins the other technologies currently available within plics, which include the Vegaflex 60 series for liquids and solids level measurement; the Vegaswing 60 series liquid level switching device (with SIL 2 safety rating); and the Vegabar 50 and 60 series for pressure and hydrostatic level measurement.
The Vegapuls 60 is a high-performance, ultra-compact sensor with various process connections. From rugged horn antennae made of stainless steel or Hastelloy through to PTFE fully encapsulated hygienic antenna systems for the pharmaceutical and food processing industry, these options ensure non-contact radar level measurement technology is possible in virtually any industry.
All the above instruments benefit from the universal programming and display module, plicsCOM. Plugged into any plics instrument, this is used to display measured values as well as for set-up and adjustment of the plics devices. Whatever the housing (which are all available in a wide choice of materials) plicsCOM fits. With more than 60 000 successful installations worldwide, Vega has designed the plics concept to address its customers' needs for low cost of ownership. The picture shows the Vegapuls 60 radar sensor.
