Polycomp/Ford to develop assembly line management system

As part of Ford's worldwide drive towards increased quality, safety and lower costs, PolyComp, a South African market leader in LED display systems, has been selected as a technology supplier and systems developer for the Silverton production plant in Pretoria, Gauteng.

The assembly line management system is designed to facilitate accurate and automated event logging and data management, to reduce line stoppage downtime, increase safety and enable rapid identification of possible problems with supply or component and assembly quality.

The system interfaces with the assembly line PLCs via TCP/IP Ethernet for easy integration with the existing corporate communications infrastructure. Linked with PolyComp's LED display technology situated at strategic locations throughout the assembly line, assemblers and managers can see critical line status information at a glance, and PC-based management software enables detailed reporting and statistical analysis of line events.
