Mechatronics often described as the synergy of mechanical and electronic technologies is increasingly being singled out as a core focus by both the education and business sectors. Recent examples can be found at Pretoria Technikon and Port Elizabeth Technikon. Festo Didactic is actively aiding these Technikons in this technology drive. "Despite some initial reservations, the vocational training and business sectors now recognise the benefits of mechatronic learning modules," reports Tom Webster, head of Festo Didactic. Multimedia and e-learning based training is used extensively in the training modules.

MPS can be used to simulate real-life industrial production equipment of varying complexity and is accompanied by software and textbooks covering the various aspects of mechatronics.
