Binary flow monitor for use in many applications
October 2003
Flow Measurement & Control
The type SI 1006 binary flow monitors from IFM Electronic provide reliable flow monitoring in many applications. This is accomplished by using only one sensor and a selection of process fittings.
Installation and set-up is fast via the pushbutton programming unit, and the specially designed process connection reduces the number of parts required for operation. The flow monitor is unaffected by the orientation of the sensing face with respect to the direction of flow, and its display can be individually rotated providing increased flexibility of installation.
Using microprocessor technology, the flow monitors feature simple pushbutton programming, which allows safe and fast switch point set-up for overflow and underflow monitoring. This is complemented by easy adjustment of the sensor to the flow rate. The switch point can also be set prior to installation in the pipe and secured by an electronic lock, providing additional time saving factors during installation. Rapid visual reading of the output of the device is made possible by a display that simultaneously indicates the current flow, the switch point - and the status of the switching output.
Meeting IP67 requirements, the units are manufactured in high grade stainless steel, are vibration and shock resistant, and pressure resistant up to 30 MPa. The flow monitors have a 1 to 10 s response time and are suitable for use in a temperature range from -25 to +80°C.

Loop signature 29: Averaging or surge level control
Editor's Choice Flow Measurement & Control
There are many processes where it is undesirable for the load to suddenly change quickly, for example in the paper industry. Examples of level control have involved reasonably fast tuning. An example of a level loop tuned this way and responding to a step change in setpoint is given.
