Type 4 muting safety barriers

September 2003 Sensors & Transducers

Reer's new Janus M muting photoelectric safety barriers are designed to protect machine operators exposed to risks when using hazardous machinery and industrial equipment in situations where it is necessary to use the muting function. This muting function allows temporary suspension of the barrier operation while ensuring safety in relation to the specific production cycle. All safety functions are integrated so that no external control unit is required by the type 4 device. These types of barriers provide protection in heights from 310 mm to 1,81 m with scanning ranges up to 60 m.

The barriers consist of an emitter and receiver and they are equipped with failsafe static outputs, user-selectable automatic or manual restart, a feedback function for monitoring external devices and the related muting time-out and override auxiliary functions.

LEDs and their diagnostic display indicate the current configuration, operating or malfunction status, as well as possible internal failures. Included in the range are two, three and four-beam models without the muting feature, and all types operate on 24 V d.c.
