Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Quarter turn control valves

August 2003 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

In the process industry, control valves are often considered to be the most important element. For plant and personnel safety as well as to satisfy safety regulations, accurate control is now a necessity in critical applications.

For many years the traditional globe valve has been used as the controlling element; however, valve manufacturers continued striving to find the perfect control valve. Important features like shut-off capability, flow capacity, stem leakage, handling of dirty fluids, weight and bulkiness as well as maintenance and costs have led valve manufacturers to seek other solutions for the right valve technology.

Habonim's design engineers believe they have found a good solution to total control in the process industry. Called the V-Port, the ball valve has a simple yet advanced construction, and together with a new controlling device, provides the industrial market with a control element solution that can be used in many applications.

The V-Port ball valve is said to offer many advantages over the globe valve, due to its inherent high flow capacity, floating ball design, seat wiping action and rotary stem. These together with a new seat technology and modular building of computer linked control elements allow the V-Port ball valve to excel in a number of areas, with its makers offering:

* Zero seat leakage.

* High flow capacity.

* Wide rangeability.

* Outstanding repeatability.

* High stability with minimum hysteresis.

* Precise control.

* Specially lapped ball and seat with precise mating.

* Compact size compared to linear control valves and lower torque than segmented valves.

* Various seat designs to suit the application.

* Various coating options with low friction and anti-abrasion features.

* Rotary stem minimises fugitive emissions.

* Easy maintenance, longer life span and low operating cost.

* Various materials available, 316 stainless steel as standard.

* Modular construction of control elements

* Available in three piece and flanged versions.
