For level monitoring in non-conductive and foaming media, particularly suited to CIP/SIP cleaning in the food industry, Instrotech offers the Kobold microwave level switch, series LNM-N.
The microwave field penetrates a number of millimetres into the medium, which means that the foam, condensate or sticky residues are not detected. The output of the level switch only switches when the stainless steel head is completely covered by the medium allowing the device to be universally mounted in the pipework.
The probe has weld-in sleeves to ensure a hygienic measuring point that is cavity free. Adaptor sleeves for different process connections are also available so that the device can be fitted to existing plants. The electronics are fully integrated and the output signal (24 V d.c. or 50 mA) can be connected directly to a PLC for further processing. Protection is to IP67 standards and the Kobold level switch weighs in at a half a kilogram.
