The original Weiher power plant in Quierschied Germany was built around 80 years ago in the immediate vicinity of the Goettelborn coal mine. At its re-commissioning in 1976, Weiher III was the first hard coal power plant in the world with an electrical output of more than 700 MW. Along with power, it also provided district heating for the community of Quierschied. DSF (the Fireye distributor based in Neu-Isenburg - Frankfurt) recently provided the latest technology, Fireye Insight scanners for the application. These were fitted for flame supervision of oil and coal firing.
The boiler configuration is arranged with six levels and a total of 48 Steinmueller burners. Oil flame scanning was provided directly at the burners with coal scanning from the side. Insight was selected by DSF because of its excellent discrimination capabilities and the fact it met all the relevant product approvals for the German market (meeting TUV, DVGW and DIN requirements). The picture shows the burner mounted flame scanner.
