Keops Altech walks away with the laurels at Wonderware X-Change 2003 Conference

May 2003 System Integration & Control Systems Design

April 2003 - Keops Altech, a member of the multibillion rand JSE Securities Exchange-listed Altech group of companies, was appointed as Top Wonderware Systems Integrator - and also won the award for the best integrated solution at the recently held 11th Annual Southern Africa Wonderware User Group Conference, X-Change 2003.

The conference is staged annually by Futuristix Advanced Control Systems, the sole Southern African distributor for Wonderware's range of industrial automation software products. It serves as a platform to highlight top applications from southern Africa and around the world and to encourage discussion on how companies in a multitude of industries have implemented and gained from the use of industrial software systems. More than 40 presenters from around the globe updated delegates on the latest software investment in this constantly evolving technology.

Up from third place last year, Keops Altech walked away with the prize for Top Systems Integrator for installing the most Wonderware software systems in the industrial automation field during the past year. Quite a feat when one considers that system integration has only been a recent addition to the services offered by Keops Altech. System integration has the purpose to share information in such a manner that the business process is enabled through availability of the right data to the right sub-system at the right time in the right format with no duplication or limited access of data, or manual intervention required to obtain data. Annalize Cintra, business development manager at Keops Altech, said, "This shows that our extensive project management and control experience in bespoke software development is providing a successful and low risk platform to move into new product offerings."

Keops Altech's presentation on the completed installation of a 'Manufacturing Information Management System' at a major metals refining plant earned them the much-coveted award for best integrated solution. The project encompassed the implementation of a batch management and metals accounting system, integrating Protean to schedule and design a batch as well as manage inventory, InBatch to execute the business process using recipes, InTouch to view and control the progress, Lab vantage LIMS for quality assurance and scales for mass control and reconciliation.

Applications entered in each of the categories were judged on a comprehensive set of criteria, and all submissions were decided on by a panel of international industry experts, trade journal editors and members of Wonderware and Futuristix. Cintra said, "We are extremely proud of our achievements at the X-Change conference this year. We competed against the major players in the industry and came up tops.

"Keops Altech delivers fit-for-purpose solutions for the manufacturing industry and integrates operational, management and control requirements with the best technology to ensure maximum value delivery. We continually refine our customers' operational processes, adding real business value through the creative use of globally recognised process and system models, combined with a clear understanding of business and process issues. I believe that our total commitment to these principles went a long way in achieving the Wonderware awards," she added.
