Wire-actuated sensor

April 2003 Sensors & Transducers Products & Solutions

The Siko wire actuated sensor for potentiometer, 4 to 20 mA, or incremental shaft encoder output, measures up to 1000 mm. The circumference of the drum is 10 mm, which means that a 10 mm linear movement turns the drum with 360°. The wire winds up neatly on the drum via a separate pulley. A specialised cable, (paraleine), is used which is four times stronger than steel wire and far more flexible.

The shaft of the potentiometer is directly mounted onto the drum. The measuring length is determined by the type of multiturn pot. Measuring lengths are 1000 mm with 10-turn pot, 500 mm with 5 turn pot and non-standard 300 mm with 3 turn pot. Maximum resolution with incremental encoder is 1000 pulses per rev ->0,1 mm linear resolution. The unit is compact measuring, 40 x 40 x 50 mm.
