Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Schneider Electric's Vijeo Designer

April 2011 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Schneider Electric South Africa has introduced Vijeo Designer, the dedicated configuration software for its entire Magelis range.

Vijeo Designer was developed using standard technologies to offer an intuitive interface with easy object configuration to speed up the design of HMI applications. In addition, its Intelligent Data Service add-on enables full and safe processes, compliant with the traceability requirements of the FDA 21 CFR Part 11.

According to product manager for automation at Schneider Electric South Africa, Steve Gerber, Vijeo Designer’s ability to adapt to a client’s exact display and control requirements allows it to handle HMI applications quickly and easily across the range, from the smallest application Magelis HMI STO terminals to the most complex applications for Magelis iPC with 480 mm iDisplay.

“Vijeo Designer can be used with all terminals in the Magelis range, from small to advanced panels and industrial PCs. Clients also save time through the application management tools, image library, configurable objects and PC simulation features,” says Gerber.

The designer is multilingual for use anywhere in the world. It supports 38 alphabets and manages 15 languages simultaneously. Furthermore, it can communicate easily with a wide range of PLCs, industrial peripherals and third-party equipment – all connected to a single HMI terminal. Another highlight is Web Gate, a facility that enables HMI applications to be viewed, monitored and controlled via a standard Web browser.

“Vijeo Designer’s multimedia functions are ideal for monitoring, reporting, training, and troubleshooting HMI applications. And, thanks to Intelligent Data Service, users can trace the process variables and user actions from several targets simultaneously via a single Web interface,” concludes Gerber.
