OSIsoft has announced that Centrica, a top 30 FTSE100 company with growing energy businesses in the UK and North America, has successfully launched a smart metering pilot project using the OSIsoft Meter Data Unification and Synchronization (MDUS) system.
Centrica is implementing a high-speed, high-volume meter data handling system that will work with SAP for Utilities, particularly SAP AMI Integration for Utilities software. The OSIsoft MDUS was chosen because it has the flexibility to support the requirements of its British Gas retail group in the highly competitive UK market.
The OSIsoft MDUS stores electricity and gas usage meter data and meter events. OSIsoft has decades of experience in working with real-time data from multiple data collection systems. In addition OSIsoft has a proven track record of working with SAP AG. The OSIsoft MDUS system is an SAP-endorsed business solution. Solutions endorsed by SAP are complementary to SAP software offerings, are developed in accordance with SAP development guidelines, and provide additional choices and flexibility for businesses running SAP applications.
“OSIsoft’s MDUS system is positioned to be a core technology for smart metering at British Gas, and we will be able to leverage the time-series data management infrastructure across other areas of the company,” said Petter Allison, director for smart metering at British Gas. “We chose OSIsoft MDUS for its performance, scalability and high availability as well as OSIsoft’s ability to assist with initial project phases. The initial roll out of the technology will be for the retail market supporting the British Gas retail group.”
