Quality valve features tubeless solenoid valve

November 2000 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

The Arca Ecotrol from Valve & Automation features a neat and well thought-through design.

It takes only seconds to install/remove the valve positioner. In one step the outlet actuating pressure and the feedback mechanism are all connected, without the need to fiddle with any other parts. The rugged positioner features a tubeless mounting design. The short mounting bracket results in a rigid arrangement that does a lot to ensure accurate operation of the positioner. Safety considerations for the positioner (and for those near it) have been effectively met by encasing the positioner between the posts of the yoke. The routing of instrument air is achieved by means of an integral channel that is included in the yoke casting - simple, neat and robust.

To install redundant safety systems with separate inlet signal in safety-relevant process areas, an additional solenoid valve can be plugged in between the positioner outlet and the actuator inlet. The positioner signal y will be transmitted through the pressure gauge set to the solenoid valve provided with a modified NAMUR adaptation for a three-way solenoid valve.

An energising safety signal to the solenoid valve will pass through routes one and two of the solenoid valve, via the yoke to the actuator. In the case of a de-energised safety signal, independent of the control signal of the positioner, the instrument air of the actuator will be exhausted through routes two and three, moving the control valve to its safety end position.

The major benefit of this construction is the tubeless connection of the actuator with the positioner and solenoid valve. This is what enables the positioner and solenoid valve to be interchanged quickly, within seconds, while also considerably reducing the space required.
