Linear position sensor for mobile hydraulics

August 2018 Motion Control & Drives

The LTE series expands Turck’s portfolio of linear position sensors to include mobile hydraulics, characterised by the completely encapsulated installation within the cylinder.

Why was this product created?

Linear position sensors play an important role in automation. They provide accurate absolute position feedback to help automate today’s sophisticated machinery, so these sensors must deliver value, be easy to set up, and interface easily into the host controller.

Since today’s industrial challenges are extreme, this sensor technology has been designed and built to meet and exceed the demands, regardless of the application or environment. Innovation, proprietary technology and decades of experience were key to development of the LTE embedded linear position sensor.

Designed with the mobile hydraulics market in mind, the sensors are rugged and accurate with programmable zero and span plus auto-tuning in a compact embedded rod-style package. The style allows the unit to be totally installed inside of a hydraulic cylinder, thus protecting the transducers from outside conditions. The transducer utilises magnetostrictive technology to give absolute analog position, accurate to 0,04 % of the programmable sensing distance. A variety of outputs are available to suit different requirements.

Other features include:

• Shock and vibration: the sensors are designed to withstand extreme vibration of up to 30 G and shock up to 100 G.

• Accurate feedback: high accuracy, combined with 16-bit output resolution provides reliable, absolute position feedback to help automate today’s sophisticated mobile machinery. Programmable zero and span points allow the output to be adjusted according to requirements.

• Simplicity by design: with its easy installation, intuitive interface with host controllers and drivers, and no annual calibrations or field adjustments required, users can be confident that the LTE will deliver accurate and reliable performance.

• Electromagnetic compatibility: unwanted effects like electromagnetic interference (EMI) can generate inaccurate feedback and cause damage to equipment. The LTE embedded sensor provides superior electrical noise and emissions immunity in all types of mobile systems.

• Versatile power supply: a wide input power range (from 8 to 30 VDC) allows the LTE to be used in a variety of industries and applications.
