Omniflex grows nuclear capability

March 2017 News

Omniflex has been heavily involved in the nuclear industry over the past 30 years. Since the early 1980s, the company has designed and delivered hundreds of products and systems to nuclear plants around the world. During that time it has formed close partnerships not only with end-users, but also Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, developing products and systems to meet the following applications:

SIL-rated alarm annunciator systems Emphasis, assessed by Sellafield and EDF Energy for use across the whole of the UK’s nuclear sites.

• Replacement of obsolete alarm annunciator systems including the design, build, testing and commissioning to ensure that new systems fit in the existing space and wiring, minimising downtime and reducing costs significantly.

• Radiological surveillance and protection systems interfacing to old and new radiation monitors of many different manufacturers.

• SOE (sequence of event) monitoring systems providing real-time event management to sub 1 ms resolution.

• Temperature monitoring systems for reactors and fuel rod monitoring.

• SIL-rated signal conditioning products and trip amplifiers that have been Emphasis-assessed by Urenco for use across the UK’s nuclear sites.

• Secondary fire reporting and site signalling systems by adapting the 24 VDC tri-state values into digital outputs suitable for ARC (alarm receiving centres): full details to be released shortly.

• Radiological door warning signs (DWS) and slave alarm units (SAU) used across the Sellafield UK site to protect personnel from doses of radiation.
