Gateway to space
April 2016
News
Have you ever wondered what it’s like in space? After a successful season in Europe, the Gateway to Space exhibition will be hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre from 1 June to 31 July 2016. Assembled by the US Space & Rocket Centre, Gateway to Space offers an impressive collection of exhibits to engage and enlighten visitors while instilling a sense of awe. To date, almost a million people have flocked to see this exhibition.
One of the many highlights of the exhibition is a walk-in replica of the Mir space station core module, built at an angle to give the effect of vertigo. You can walk inside and also view a model of the craft’s pilot station. Other exciting exhibits include four original space suits, a real moon rock, the original Multi-Axis Trainer, a glimpse of a scale-model space toilet, the food astronauts eat in space and a model of the Orion capsule, which is designed for future missions to Mars.
Gateway to Space brings the great adventure of space exploration to South Africa for the first time. From youngsters seeing these marvels for the first time to the older generation who followed the space race, this exhibition invites space dreamers to set their imagination free, cross thresholds and experience the excitement of mankind’s adventure in space.
