It is indeed a proud day for the SAIMC today. The inaugural Africa Automation Fair opened with much fanfare on Tuesday. The impressive array of stands gives this event the truly international feel we were striving for when we were involved in the conceptualisation of this event. The objectives of the SAIMC regarding global recognition, providing a large database of C&I expertise, being a catalyst between industry and education, bridging the gap between the expectations of industry and education institutions and keeping members up to date are all being met at this event.
The AAF 2015 augers well for the future of our Industry and the elevation of its profile in the engineering space. This will further advance the other objectives of the SAIMC, which are to ensure that the C&I industry’s best interests are represented and the ultimate goal of formal recognition of C&I as the 10th engineering discipline by ECSA. Furthermore, the FTC All Africa Championships being hosted in parallel to the AAF has provided a fabulous platform for the youth to engage with engineers and be exposed to the world of automation and control. I met a group of mechatronics students who were blown away by the number of control systems that were available. Hopefully some of them will choose a career in C&I in the future.
Finally, I must congratulate the organisers, élancommunications for a job well done in arranging a world-class event. Hanli and team, I know it must have been very stressful, but you have a lot to be proud of. Congratulations once again to you all!
