Harting’s Ha-VIS Dashboard offers network management functionality

IT in Manufacturing
The Ha-VIS Dashboard was developed to monitor, set-up, and maintain IP-based communication networks. Up to 256 network devices can be detected and administered. The application range is versatile and extends from the industrial network infrastructure to areas in energy technology to transportation applications.
Topology detection
The software detects manageable network units and is capable of representing the network topology automatically. Automatic topology detection requires support from the Link Layer Discovery Protocol and Simple Network Management Protocol, which are standard today. All intelligent Harting network components, currently the switches in the mCon family, the Fast Track family and the RF-R500 RFID reader, can be centrally monitored and administered. The software is additionally open with respect to network components from other manufacturers. The topology representation can be adapted to the particular requirements by assigning a customer-specific background image and individual icons for network devices. Network devices that do not fulfil the requirements for automatic topology detection can be integrated into the representation manually.
Automatic event processing
The Ha-VIS Dashboard makes it possible to configure detected devices centrally via the Web, Telnet or SSH interface. Disruptions in the connection are detected and visualised. Such events, which also include received SNMP traps, can automatically trigger actions such as an E-Mail notification or program start. This flexibly configurable functionality improves the response time to events in the network.
Integrated SNMP browser
The integrated SNMP browser allows SNMP access to detected network devices. The Harting Managed Switches can be parameterised directly through this, and configuration via Web interface is also possible.
Analysis and statistics
In addition to straightforward monitoring and administration of Ethernet infrastructure, the Ha-VIS Dashboard also offers analysis options. The network load can be sampled in cycles for selected connections by port and shown in a self-scaling diagram. This functionality also allows an evaluation of the data from the last 30 minutes. Depending on the need, the Ha-VIS Dashboard can be installed as a local installation or as a server-client application. A server-client installation minimises the network load of the monitoring process and centralises the data storage, because the necessary processes run centrally on the server. Many small but useful details, such as topology storage, round out the total Ha-VIS Dashboard.
