Energy management specialist, Schneider Electric, is the sole sponsor of the prestigious Paris Marathon. The company believes that just as runners consider their own efficiency and energy consumption, Schneider can help people and organisations make the most of their energy. Once a year Schneider invites editors from all over the world to a press day where its latest innovations are showcased and the media is given an insight into its strategic direction.

For those editors who happen to be runners, the cherry on the top is to have the opportunity to run this world class marathon. Motion Control’s editor, Kim Roberts, was in this happy position. The race attracted over 47 000 runners from 109 countries with 41% being foreign entrants. The route went past all the major landmarks of Paris – a very unique way of taking in all the sights in only a few hours. There was a fantastic buzz, with music and entertainment at almost every kilometre. There were plenty of South African flags along the way, so any local runners had lots of support.
Apart from inviting three editors, as well as the lucky draw winner from the Experience Efficiency expo held last August, Schneider Electric South Africa sponsored the two winners of last year’s Soweto Marathon, Meseret Biru and Sintayehu Legeae Yinesu from Ethopia. A huge highlight was that Meseret was the women’s winner in a thrilling finish, with Sintayehu coming in tenth. “This is a huge coup for us,” says the company’s communications director for South Africa, Ntombi Mhangwani. “It’s been a perfect way to put Schneider Electric South Africa on the world map.”
