Multi-beam solids analyser

April 2015 Sensors & Transducers

Dairy processors, food plants and brewers can make significant savings, getting more product in the bag and less down the drain, by using Quadbeam Technologies’ four beam self-compensating sensors.

Excellent repeatability, robustness and simple set up are key attributes to monitor total suspended solids in harsh environments like a dairy factory waste stream, where milk fat, fluctuating temperatures and chemicals, all play havoc on turbidity meters and total suspended solids sensors. Quadbeam Technologies’ turbidity and total suspended solids sensors, with their four beam self-compensating ratio metric measurement system, provide the required repeatability and the single polymer housing makes it virtually impossible for them to leak.

The MXD70 series of Quadbeam transmitters allows users to simply set up their analysers against their own site laboratory equipment as a reference measurement.

Used in a variety of applications, one of the most powerful is loss monitoring where there are two main aspects: firstly to alert to any spills giving operators the chance to limit the loss. While the spill is happening, the high concentration waste can automatically be diverted away from the treatment plant to be stored for a managed release to treatment at a later stage. The second part of loss monitoring is having good data to incorporate into a continuous improvement programme aimed at reducing waste.

Generally, once a benchmark of loss is established, opportunities can be identified to reduce the losses, improve productivity and cut down on waste treatment. Other waste reduction applications where Quadbeam sensors are commonly used include accurate water to product interface and CIP control.

As well as dairy and food, the sensors are popular in other challenging waste monitoring, control and processing applications in industries such as wastewater mining and chemicals processing.
