All imported IS equipment based on overseas certification must be inspected and certified by a South African inspection authority approved by the Chief Inspector. No overseas certification is valid unless it is underwritten by a local IA certificate. This has an impact on importers of IS certified instrumentation as they may not supply these instruments to customers without local IA certification.
The solution
R&C Instrumentation has contracted the services of MASC, a local inspection authority, to assist with the development and certification of the Raytek ST61-IS, ST81-IS and MT-4IS models. Adaptation of the standard ST61, ST81 and MT-4IS models to rating Ex ic I/IIA T4 is done at its workshop based in Modderfontein, where a strict quality control programme is in place.
