Jumo’s EcoLine optical sensor for dissolved oxygen

October 2013 Flow Measurement & Control

The Jumo EcoLine O-DO optical sensor is an intelligent measuring system for dissolved oxygen with the advantages of long-term stability, low drift and low maintenance. The system is suitable for use in communal and industrial sewage plants, drinking water monitoring, water protection and fish farming.

In addition to measuring the pH value and conductivity, determining the concentration of dissolved oxygen is also an important task in aqueous analytical measurement. This new digital sensor is based on a visual measurement procedure (luminescence method) where, unlike conventional electromechanical sensors, the optical sensor provides measurement that is characterised as low drift, low maintenance and has excellent long-term stability.

Calibration data and history is saved in the head of the sensor making it easy to use plug-and-play without the need for recalibration. The robust sensor in a stainless steel casing operates across a measuring range from 0 to 20 mg/l and can be used in a temperature range from 0 to 60°C. Immersion and flow fittings are available as accessories.

The sensor is connected to the Aquis 500 RS transmitter with integrated controller function via Modbus RTU protocol on RS-485. The transmitter is designed as a field device with protection type IP67, but can also be mounted in a control cabinet. Plain text displays make operation easy and the backlight enables readings to be taken even in adverse lighting conditions.

The device is programmed via a PC using a convenient setup program available as an accessory. The transmitter is equipped with two relays that enable the user to carry out switching, monitoring and control tasks.

The Jumo Aquis 500 RS complements the proven Aquis series which holds devices for measuring pH value, redox potential, conductivity and ammonia concentration.
