Attendees were guests of Vega Instruments SA at the Roodepoort Country Club, the venue for Clemens Hengstler’s interesting and at times amusing demonstration of the VegaPuls series 60 range.

Clemens is product manager for radar and ultrasonics at Vega Grieshaber, Germany. He used a golfing theme to illustrate the qualities and functionality of the VegaPuls radar, comparing conditions under which golfers have to play the ball with conditions under which a radar sensor has to operate effectively and reliably.

The new electronics in the 60 series range enable faster, more accurate and intelligent signal evaluation, with improved antenna systems and additional housing versions. The intelligent software has improved the detection of level echo movement; increased the measuring security; added to the number of saved values and data history and improved diagnosis and asset management.

Applications as varied as a flour mill, a cement factory, a biogas plant and a steel mill were looked at, demonstrating the device’s capabilities under these varied conditions. The series 60 range includes sensors suitable for cost effective, easy applications with a short measuring range, up to long range, high temperatures applications under difficult conditions. Products measured can vary from bulk solids to aggressive mediums such as acids, to food, which requires a hygienic encapsulated antenna.

MD of Vega Instruments SA, John Groom, was on hand to reaffirm the company’s philosophy of sustainability, in which equal emphasis is placed on innovative products and customer relationships.
