Sensors & Transducers
Today, reliable measurements are required over a much wider range of activities, as industry undergoes changes new measuring techniques become critical. One of the influencing factors is temperature control in the laboratory and manufacturing environment. Most laboratory/manufacturing environments require a temperature controlled environment and a need to prove that it stays within the required tolerance.
One of the principles to ensure the success of the temperature controlled environment is the selection of the correct sensors. Typical sensors in the industry are resistive thermal devices (RTDs), thermocouples and thermistors. The sensor plays an important role in control of the temperature, hence it is crucial to select the correct type. Recording of the temperature measurements in these controlled environments is an important aspect of record keeping for quality control purpose.
Traditionally temperature measurements in the laboratory were done using thermistors, with measurements being recorded manually. However, recording of temperature measurements has become much easier with the introduction of data-loggers. Data-logging has proved to be an efficient way to record within the controlled environment. It offers the benefits of automatic measurement and permanent records that are secure against tampering. Data-logging offers two different approaches, one allows the data to be stored in a memory and retrieved at a later time, while the other records the data to a PC for immediate analysis. Measurements can be downloaded onto the PC for record keeping.
Why move to data-logging?
Data-logging provides the following benefits:
* Real-time data.
* Ease of use.
* Raw data can be analysed graphically and statistically.
Apollo Scientific offers a SANAS accredited temperature laboratory and accurate traceable data-logging solutions.
