Water systems with energy savings and sustainability

Technews Industry Guide: Sustainable Manufacturing 2024 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

ELGA Veolia has relaunched its award-winning PURELAB flex range, with features to reduce the system’s environmental footprint and incorporate some of the latest innovations in water purification technologies. The ecological improvements integrated into the flex range have been made to reduce water and power consumption. In a typical usage pattern, savings can be up to 20% for water and 55% for electrical power.

Features contributing to these enhanced performance areas are:

• Use of a state-of-the-art reverse osmosis membrane to significantly improve water flux, resulting in decreased reservoir filling time and lower water usage.

• Electrical power savings that significantly reduce electricity use. This is achieved by lowering the reservoir fill level and the necessary refill rate.

• Introduction of the Eco Mode, which optimises energy consumption and reduces environmental impact.

These changes have created less environmental impact. Benefits are:

• Up to 55% reduction in energy consumption with the new Eco Mode.

• Manufactured from 55 to 70% reclaimed and sustainably sourced materials, with FSC packaging and the removal of high VOC paint.

• Water to drain has been reduced by 20% with the new reverse osmosis module.

The four models in the series,Flex I, Flex 2, Flex 3 and Flex 3+ are all equipped with a versatile upgraded ergonomic handset for enhanced flexibility, ease of use and improved autovolume dispensing. The clear display is positioned on the handset, with information such as real-time TOC monitoring for reliable results and repeatability.

Diverse applications such as solutions, bioprocessing and cleaning rely on high-quality water purification with various grades of water, and the four PURELAB flex models can cater to these diverse needs.

Flex 1 can function as a straightforward deionising dispensing system, while Flex 2 generates an ultrapure Type 1 water (18,2 Ω.cm) from a pre-purified source, perfect for analytical and life science applications. Flex 3 is the ultimate single-unit all-in-one system for ultrapure Type I water from potable tap water. The Flex 3+ presents a unique automated solution for Type 1 water as it couples directly with analytical chemistry systems.

The PURELAB flex range is not just about delivering high-quality water purification, it’s about empowering users to make greener choices effortlessly. The robust design and high-quality components ensure that the ELGA systems maintain superior water purification performance, even after extended use. By investing in a water purification system that emphasises longevity, laboratories can minimise the need for frequent replacements and contribute significantly to waste reduction.
