Flexibility for disinfection measuring points

April 2021 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Systematic disinfection is an essential step in water treatment and legally required in many areas to protect people and systems from illness or damage. Monitoring of these disinfection processes is a must to comply with limit values and avoid wasting disinfectants. Endress+Hauser’s modular Flowfit CYA27 flow assembly provides a flexible basis for the measurement of disinfection parameters such as chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone or bromine, as well as other parameters of liquid analysis such as pH or ORP.

Maximum flexibility with minimum water loss

The CYA27 assembly allows for individual configuration of up to six modules, thereby enabling perfect adaptation to any process requirements. Assembly modules for disinfection sensors and pH/ORP, oxygen or conductivity sensors accommodate relevant measuring points for the analysis of drinking and process water. Further flow or dosing modules ensure a smooth operation of the measuring points.

The growing demand for water and the increasing water scarcity make it necessary to waste as little water as possible, also in bypass measurements. Disinfection sensors installed in the Flowfit CYA27 assembly need a sample flow as low as 5 l/h for a reliable measurement, meaning only a minimum amount of water goes to waste.

Safe measurement and easy maintenance

The new Flowfit system features a status indication light that allows for easy identification of the operating status of the measuring point. This indication light can be used to reflect the status of the flow, showing a red light if the flow is too low. It can also be connected to the alarm relay of the transmitter to indicate the NAMUR status of the measuring point. Operators can see the status at a glance and are able to react to potential errors.

When equipped with the optional cleaning and dosing module, the Flowfit CYA27 assembly requires very low maintenance. The dosing pump module is switched via the connected transmitter, for example the Liquiline multi-parameter transmitter with relay card, enabling automated cleaning cycles and acidification of the medium for specific disinfection process conditions, thus minimising the workload for operating staff.
