The speaker for the Technology Evening on 10 September 2008 was Leon Langenhoven, Systems and Solutions Business Driver for E+H, directly responsible for bus integration (Profibus, Hart and FF) and currently a committee member of the Profibus user group.
Leon gave a presentation ‘Plant asset management for process plants today’ covering topics such as how plant asset management systems can configure all intelligent field devices in the plant while providing users with management supports, the benefits during the engineering (installation and commissioning) phase, and afterwards during the operating and maintenance lifecycles. How it provides valuable information for each of those involved in the field of process instrumentation and answering questions such as: What is plant asset management for process instrumentation? What is FDT/DTM technology? What is FDi Technology and then on FieldCare – a practical demonstration on the FDT frame available in the market today.
Our last Technology Evening for 2008 will be on 8 October 2008 and will be a presentation by Paulo Da Silva, Honeywell Field Solutions regional sales leader, on ‘Corrosion monitoring on-line as a process variable’.
Honeywell has instrumentation available now that can provide online 24/7 corrosion analysis on vessels and pipelines and the results logged and trended on the DCS system providing the following four parameters: general corrosion (uniform) taking place; pitting factor/rate; Stern Geary (beta) values and the corrosion mechanism indicator.
The benefit of this online monitoring is that if there is a sharp rise in the corrosion or pitting, other process parameters such as temperature that are being logged and trended can be reviewed immediately and a correlation made as to why corrosion is deviating from what is expected; and immediate preventive action taken to remedy the situation.
Mark the 8th in your diary and stay abreast of the latest technology developments; this presentation is well worth attending. Paulo will have a demonstration kit on hand to do live monitoring as he speaks so you can see it for yourself! Sien is glo – seeing is believing.
