Red Lion has again been selected as the number one choice in panel meters by the readers of Control Design magazine. Red Lion has won the panel meter category of the Reader's Choice Award every year since 2001, the first year the award was given.

Fluke, manufacturer and supplier of portable, professional electronic test tools, has acquired DH Instruments (DHI). Founded in 1980, Arizona, USA-based DHI is a leading manufacturer of high performance pressure and gas flow standards, including calibration process software.

National Instruments, a global leader in graphical system design, has announced the availability of a new version of LabVIEW, the graphical design platform for test, control and embedded system development, for use with Windows Vista.

Germany: The entire spectrum of light measurement will be on show at LASER 2007 World of Photonics running from 18-21 June 2007 at the new Munich Trade Centre where visitors will get the opportunity to see, inspect and discuss the latest measurement systems from many of the industry's leading manufacturers.

Wavecom SA has announced financial results for first quarter ending 31 March, 2007. Ron Black, Wavecom CEO, drew attention to the significant year-on-year revenue growth, strong 12-month backlog quarter-on-quarter and the company's growing number of design wins in markets like automotive.

Germany: In April the battle for supremacy between FDT (field device tool) and EDDL (electronic device description language) technologies took a new turn with representatives from both parties announcing that they have reached agreement to combine efforts and work toward a unified solution for device integration that is compatible with both technologies. Future developments will use a subset of the OPC UA technology within a client-server architecture. In addition, both parties have agreed to incorporate the advantages of FDT and EDDL technologies.

Profibus umbrella organisation PI (Profibus & Profinet International) has announced that 2006 sales of Profibus nodes reached a new high of 3,4 million. This brings the total number of nodes installed worldwide to 18,8 million. Profibus remains on track to easily pass the milestone of 20 million nodes forecast at the start of 2004.

Siemens VDO Automotive has signed an agreement to acquire Ballard Power Systems Electric Drive Business located in Dearborn, Michigan, USA. Ballard Power Systems Corp, a subsidiary of Ballard Power Systems Inc, develops and manufactures electric drive technology for fuel cell vehicles. Pending final approvals, the acquisition is projected to be completed in early 2007 and will include Ballard Power Systems Corp's research, development and manufacturing operation in Dearborn.

Adroit has announced that it will be hosting its International User Conference from 26-27 September at the Microsoft Head Office in Johannesburg. The theme is the 'Business of Basics' and seeks to show customers how to get more value from their scada systems.

The Department of Minerals and Energy: At a media briefing on 22 May the DME announced plans to reduce energy demand by 15% in the commercial, industrial and mining sectors within the next eight years and welcomed private sector initiatives, like Energy Plus, aimed at assisting it in meeting this goal.

Grafoplast Wiremarkers has opened a new branch in Cape Town. The office and warehouse facility is situated at 13 Prestige Park in the northwestern suburb of Marconi Beacon. As of June, its full line-up of cable, wire and label marking systems and other products will be available off-the-shelf.
