Robot becomes PE Technikon Technology Centre's centrepiece

ABB's industrial robot is a centrepiece at the new Manufacturing Technology Research Centre recently opened at PE Technikon.

Richard Becker, General Manager of Marketing, ABB Automation, presented the robot valued at over R1 million to the Technikon, at the official opening.

The highlight of the centre opening was a videoconferencing link up with ABB robotic centre in Sweden. Vice-President of Research & Development for ABB in Sweden, Ulf-Goran Norefors said that ABB is proud to be associated with an institution committed to the integration of technology and congratulated the PE Technikon on the opening of the centre. He added that ABB sees opportunities in the deepening interaction of its scientists, researchers, engineers and products specialists with leading science and technology experts.

Keynote speaker, Kader Asmal, the Minister of Education said: "In the century of technology, those individuals and institutions that have harnessed information technology in their fields of operation, now have the competitive edge."

ABB in southern Africa, part of the global technology company, ABB, employs 3500 people in the SADC countries. The group is involved in large electrical engineering, industrial and technology projects throughout the region.
