Siemens
The Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D) has recently acquired two American companies and parts of a German company.
Milltronics
Siemens reached an agreement on 21 January with the major shareholders of Milltronics, through Siemens Canada, with the aim of purchasing Milltronics. The total value of the offer is in the region of R1,3 billion. Milltronics has annual sales of approximately R497 million and around 600 employees. The A&D Group is planning to build up Milltronics to form an independent business unit for level monitoring in the process industry.
Moore
On 17 January an agreement was reached with the shareholders of the Moore Products Corporation via the US company Siemens Energy & Automation, with the aim of purchasing Moore. In the context of a public tender offer Siemens made a cash offer on 21 January for all outstanding Moore shares. The total value of the offer is in the region of R1 billion. "This acquisition unites a company offering leading automation technology and services for the process industry, with one of the largest electrical and electronics companies in the world," commented Donald E. Bogle, President and CEO of Moore Products.
Moore employs some 1200 staff and has annual sales of around R1 billion.
How does this affect Moore Process Controls in South Africa?
a. Moore Process Controls is a private company with 96% of its shares held by local shareholders. Moore Products USA holds 4% of the shares which means that when the deal is concluded, Siemens will acquire 4% of Moore Process Controls in South Africa.
b. Moore Process Control is the sole distributor for Moore Products hardware and software products for the whole of sub-Saharan Africa, so it will continue to offer the same product line as before.
c. As an independent system integrator, Moore Process Controls is assuring commitment to continued service on all of the Moore Products equipment.
d. Moore Process Controls has represented Moore Products since 1984 and is likely to remain the first choice for representation in sub-Saharan Africa.
Turbo-Werk Messtechnik
To consolidate its position in the process industry Siemens A&D has recently taken over parts of Turbo-Werk Messtechnik in Cologne, Germany, with a business volume of around R41 million. Turbo-Werk specialises in measurement technology on the magneto-inductive principle.
