The steady growth of Crabtree Electrical Accessories in the buildings and construction sector in the past decades has made the company a dominant global player and a leading manufacturer in South Africa. Now Crabtree has brought its extensive knowledge and expertise to the 'home market' with an exciting new range of electrical accessories that include items such as switches and sockets, light fittings, skirting and electrical monitoring. The accessories in the range combine the reliability and high quality of the Crabtree products with stylish finishes and aesthetic designs that will complement any beautiful home.
The move into the home market is a natural follow-on for the company that first opened it doors in 1947 as a subsidiary of a UK parent company. From those early days, the Crabtree motto has been to strive to be a company that meets the high demands of its customers through the delivery of a technically advanced product, giving unrivalled service and providing superior support and back-up infrastructure. By the time Eveready South Africa bought the company in 1972, Crabtree had already been established as a leader in the field of electrical accessories. Nine years later the company was sold to Hanson Trust, a UK company. It was, however, in 1989 that Crabtree finally came into its own and became a truly South African company when it was sold to Powertech, which also owns Litemaster. The two companies were amalgamated and the Crabtree brand was retained.
Today, this is a multimillion rand company and has its manufacturing plant based in Wadeville, Germiston. Crabtree has also successfully created a solid national distribution network and has become a significant local exporter by supplying electrical accessories to other southern African countries.
With its entry into the home market, the company is optimistic that it can add value and quality to South African homes and continue to keep pace with the changing demands of the modern consumer in all sectors.
