Stack lights now availiable with DeviceNet connectivity

July 2000 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

As one of the broadest stack light product offerings in the industry, the addition of DeviceNet connectivity to the Bulletin 855T control tower stack lights expands device functionality and diagnostic capabilities while eliminating the need to hardwire the modules directly to a programmable controller. DeviceNet provides end users with the ability to communicate between devices through a common network. With communication and power distributed over DeviceNet, users are able to obtain more detailed operational data at rates higher than those transmitted by traditional hardwiring. Light and sound modules are automatically tested during start-up for module failures or lamp burn-outs and, when powered, module status is continually checked. Operators are immediately alerted of problems – minimising downtime, maximising productivity and opening the door to greater diagnostic capability.

DeviceNet provides realtime window

Operational data from the stack lights is communicated over DeviceNet via a programmable controller to an operator interface, giving users a realtime window into the process. With this information, operators can head off a variety of impending problems before they actually occur. Access to historical process information enables users to monitor day-to-day trends and implement more sophisticated preventive maintenance procedures. In addition, the elimination of point-to-point wiring not only simplifies and saves wiring cost and installation but also enables facilities to achieve greater plant-wide integration and reliability.

Control tower stack lights offer users a full range of lens colours, base colours, mounting styles and flexibility in sound, illumination and stacking options. Each light and sound module in the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 655T tower lights is a self-contained unit, with all units in the stack powered from the base. This modular design allows users to stack up to five of any type of light module in any position within the stack.

Lights may be purchased as individual components that can be assembled into the stack to meet specific requirements. All modules are UL listed.
