B & A Projects completed commissioning of paste plant expansion

Johannesburg-based electrical and control system house B&A Projects has successfully completed commissioning of the paste plant for Chartech in Witbank.

The expansion project included electrical instrumentation, software design and the MCC instrumentation and control system supply for a new anthracite furnace and new pitch plant. The company was also responsible for the electrical instrumentation and control system design, during the first stage of the project when two anthracite furnaces were built. The control system for the project is Mitsubishi A2A PLC communicating via Ethernet network to the Intellution scada systems. Relational data base application was used for storing process data form raw materials to finished product.

The finished product (paste) is used in submerged electric arc furnaces as current conducting media during smelting process. The company is also extensively involved in electrical, instrumentation and automation design and supply for ferrochrome smelting plants. Recently the company was awarded a contract for electrical instrumentation and a control system design for 48 MW ferrochrome furnace.
