The new FI22 inline fibre-optic sensor is unlike typical fibre-optic amplifiers. This sensor is designed to be used without an enclosure and does not require DIN-rail mounting. Instead, it features a unique snap-mount bracket and adhesive mounting method for infinite location flexibility. Its rugged, lightweight, low-profile plastic housing and IP67 environmental rating make it suitable for surface-mounting directly on a machine. When used with Banner Steelskin high-flex stainless steel-sheathed fibres, this system provides a robust alternative to expensive and bulkier glass fibre-optic systems.
Accurate set-up is easy with the visible light beam and the realtime feedback of an 8-segment LED bargraph display. The FI22 features simple, pushbutton single or two-point static, and two-point dynamic Teach programming, plus a manual adjustable mode for fine-tuning. Single-point static Teach defines a sensing window centred on a single taught condition and is accomplished in static mode. Dynamic Teach is used to program the sensor 'on-the-fly' during actual machine-run conditions by taking multiple samples of the light-and-dark conditions and automatically setting the threshold at the required level. Set-up instructions are printed on the snap-mount bracket for easy reference.
The easy-to-see bargraph displays bright LEDs, providing the user continuous feedback during set-up and operation, including relative received signal strength, sensing contrast, programming status, and diagnostic warnings. For maximum efficiency and convenience, one or more sensors can be programmed from an external switch or PLC, via a remote Teach wire. For added security, the wire can also be used to disable the pushbuttons. Disabling the pushbuttons prevents undesired tampering by unauthorised personnel.
Especially significant is the mounting flexibility of the unit. Its small size and rugged construction, when incorporated with highly flexible abrasion resistant Banner Steelskin stainless steel-sheathed plastic fibres, allows for surface mounting directly on the outside of a machine.
The unit operates from 10 to 30 V d.c. and includes reverse polarity protection, two 100 mA solid-state outputs (bipolar: one NPN and one PNP), and transient voltage protection. It features a rugged housing, rated IEC IP67. Users can choose from a 2 m 5-conductor PVC cable, a 9 m PVC cable, or 6-pin integral Pico-style quick disconnect.
