Motherwell Automation opens office in South Africa

Snowden Mining Industry Consultants, based in Perth, Australia, has opened a second office in Johannesburg - Motherwell Automation. The new company offers industry expertise in the areas of PLC, supervisory control HMI and scada software suites, remote data logging and telemetry, and hybrid DCS and industrial computer systems.

Motherwell Automation represents and supports some of the world's leading manufacturers of automation, control and information technology, including GE Fanuc products manufactured by GE Industrial Systems. GE Fanuc's commitment to open architecture solutions has seen the development of many innovative products, which benefit the client by providing complete integrated solutions under the GE Fanuc banner.

The Johannesburg-based office has a sole operator in Gavin Le Roux, who plans to grow the business to a team of four to five by this time next year. "We see huge opportunities for the Motherwell Automation product range in South Africa, particularly in the hard-rock industry," states Jon Swire-Thompson, Snowden Group CEO.

"Working closely with Johannesburg-based Snowden Mining Industry Consultants in terms of client base and resources, as well as with Perth-based Snowden Technologies, will enable Motherwell Automation to offer innovative and customised technical solutions to the mining and metallurgical industries."

With over 15-years experience in the supply of automation, control and information technology solutions, Motherwell Automation has provided solutions to a wide spectrum of industries including the transport, mining, materials handling, oil and gas, water and wastewater, food and beverage, and communication industries. Locally the company will focus on OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and the mining and metallurgical industries.

Snowden Mining Industry Consultants was founded in 1987 and is now an international group with offices in Perth, Kalgoorlie, Brisbane, Vancouver and Johannesburg, providing geological and mining consulting services to the mining industry. The Snowden Technologies division specialises in the development of Information Technologies supporting geological, mineral and mining engineering process systems.
